Why Is Water So Important?

Water… we know it’s important.

We know we should probably be drinking more of it. But do we really know why?

What about how much we should be consuming? There are so many opinions and recommendations, how on earth are you supposed to know who’s telling the truth?

At diet & health, we’ve done the research for you, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a refreshing glass or bottle or water while learning everything you need to know about H2O. We will review why we need to drink water, what it does, and how much of it we should be consuming.

Ready to “dive” in? Let’s do this!

Why water?

To explain just how essential water is, we will begin with this fact: water makes up 50 to 60 percent of an adults total body weight.

What else? Your heart and brain are composed of over 70% water.

If you want your body to function, you need adequate hydration. If you want your body to function OPTIMALLY, you need substantial hydration. It’s that important!

What does water do?

We’ve established that water and proper hydration are key to good health, but specifically, water impacts the following:

Your skin. Your energy levels. Your digestion. Your weight loss. And so much more.

Water keeps your skin youthful, hydrated and elastic. It delivers important nutrients to cells and postpones fatigue. It aids in abdominal issues or constipation. It helps make you feel full longer, without any extra calories.

Water also helps detoxify! It helps you get rid of toxins faster, and optimizes kidney function.

Water does quite a bit, right?

How much water?

The final aspect of water we want to cover is how much you should be consuming daily.

As we mentioned, there are quite a few opinions around how much water we all need – and frankly, how much time you spend in the sun, your age, and activity level all contribute to what you need to stay healthy and hydrated.

With that being said, we have found the 8×8 rule to be the easiest to follow and remember, while remaining recommended by many health authorities. The 8×8 rule is eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon.

Sip on them throughout the day, and keep your body happy!

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about our friend, water. Your body relies on you to fuel it with what it needs to perform every day, and water is at the top of the list.

Don’t forget to listen to your body – because THAT is the key to good health.
